Honda announced today that its new 2018 Odyssey Minivan will go on sale tomorrow in the US, making it the latest vehicle to arrive with Apple’s in-dash CarPlay system. The CarPlay integration kicks in with the EX trim option (one up from the base model) via an 8-inch “Display Audio” touchscreen. The display will also allow the driver and front seat passenger to monitor passengers in the back with a feature called “CabinWatch” that taps into a ceiling-mounted camera....

Horror movies tend to have large marketing campaigns accompanying their theatrical releases, but a recent trend has shown an alarming amount of scares and spoilers in the trailers, diminishing overall audience enjoyment of the films. The bigger the release, the more likely people are to see promotional images and trailers for the film, and sometimes, they don’t even have to go to Youtube to find it. Streaming services, such as Hulu, show trailers for prominent films as part of their standard packaging, and can catch audiences off-guard....

In Thor: The Dark World, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) had faked his death and then fulfilled his lifelong ambition to rule Asgard by magically stripping the All-Father of his powers and banishing him. Loki used his illusion-casting powers to pose as Odin. With Queen Frigga (Rene Russo) dead after the events of The Dark World and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) away from Asgard, there was no one from Odin’s family who could penetrate Loki’s disguise....

In 1988’s Midnight Run, the seemingly random pairing of Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin surprisingly resulted in one of the more memorable action-comedies of the decade (at the time most folks didn’t even realize De Niro could do comedy). In that movie, De Niro played a tough-guy bounty hunter chasing down accountant Grodin who was on the run from both the FBI and the mob. The actors’ chemistry turned out to be unexpectedly magical, so much so that De Niro occasionally calls out for a sequel that would reuinite him with Grodin....

Homecourt, one of the AR apps demoed at the iPhone XS keynote, is getting the much-anticipated “Shot Science” update today. The updated app now tracks basketball shots using AI. The app now tracks how many shots you made, the percentage made, and where they were taken from. The app, which was developed by NEX Team, is founded by ex-Apple, Facebook, and Google engineers and uses machine learning to figure out what’s happening on the court....

A new His Dark Materials teaser trailer has been released for the upcoming adaptation. Based on the trilogy of novels by Philip Pullman, the eight-episode BBC series is set to be co-produced and distributed by HBO. The common stereotype of the Marvel Cinematic Universe productions is that they aren’t so much adaptations as over-literal translations - that the studio is engaged less in finding interesting new things to make from pre-existing properties than simply putting whatever already worked on the page directly up onscreen and jettisoning any troublesome creative whose “vision” doesn’t cotton to that (see: Wright, Edgar.) Death Stranding is currently lagging behind its internal development schedule, according to studio head Hideo Koijma. The game’s official release date has yet to be announced, although many rumors, including those instigated by Kojima himself, have speculated that the title would be launching in 2019. Death Stranding is the first AAA project that Kojima’s new studio, Kojima Productions, will release. The company was formed out of the messy 2015 split between Kojima and his former employer, Konami, and the man many believe to be one of the most creative thinkers in the entire industry has been patiently chipping away at Death Stranding ever since....
