In the world of YA fantasy adaptations, one of the most disappointing has always been The Golden Compass. Not because it was downright awful, but because it managed to make Lyra’s beautiful world of mysticism, witches, cowboys, and spirit creatures kinda boring. That’s almost worse than getting a really awful adaptation. But only almost, because we saw Eragon and things definitely could be worse. With HBO’s new His Dark Materials series, hopefully they can redeem previous adaptations....

A few weeks ago, I looked at the role that subscriptions are playing with the App Store economy. One of the comments that I got was about in-app purchases in Apple’s School and Business Manager programs. Despite the advancements in features of Apple’s deployment platforms, in-app purchases are not able to be deployed via Apple’s deployment programs for schools and businesses. Apple’s Health app features a Summary tab where you can find an overview of your health data, but unfortunately, Apple doesn’t provide any home screen widgets for Health users. HomePod is finally getting multi-user support. First, it will learn the musical tastes of each user, recognizing their voice. This means that each person in the home can make requests like ‘Play some music’ or ‘Play my favorites’ and HomePod will automatically play appropriate music … Second, the voice recognition extends to personal requests. Currently, only one user can have personal requests enabled, so if anyone asks HomePod to read their latest message, or their upcoming appointments, the speaker will always access that person’s data....

For example, HomePod is able to perform a task that no iPhone can do: set multiple timers. This groundbreaking feature still has to see its way to iOS – maybe with iOS 17 next year. But, in addition to that, Apple’s own smart speaker – which got discontinued sometime in 2021 – was able to receive some fine extra features before its farewell from the stores. For example, Apple is continuing to add new Siri languages and voice recognition through updates....

The series has a fantastic comic ensemble but the second entry underperformed, so it there still a chance Horrible Bosses 3 could happen? The original Horrible Bosses starred Jason Bateman (Arrested Development), Charlie Day, and Jason Sudeikis as three friends who work for the titular bosses. They cook up a scheme to kill their employers which goes wrong in a myriad of blackly comic ways. While Horrible Bosses received slightly mixed reviews it proved to be a hit with audiences, grossing over $200 million worldwide....

Adapting comic book stories to the big screen has to be a difficult process for filmmakers. In addition to decades of character backstory to sift through, there are iconic costumes and storylines forever embedded in fans’ minds – and comic book fans can be very vocal when changes are made. The X-Men movies began making their way into theaters 18 years ago. With each new chapter comes more beloved characters, more new timelines, and more comparisons of the live action movies to their comic book source material....

As of now, the rumors about AirPods 3 are sparse. HockeyApp has released the next major version of its SDK for Mac developers, HockeyApp 2.0. This update brings the Mac SDK up to parity with the iOS version, which received similar updates last month. The new SDK can send precise backtrace reports to developers when the app crashes during testing. This enables developers to accurately pinpoint where their code is messing up and crucially reduces time spent in debugging. The company claims that is the only crash reporting solution that offers the most flexibility in supporting all three types of logging....
