Mario is iconic in video game history, staying relevant and engaging for a quarter of a century. Who knew go-kart races could be fun for 25 years straight? With Nintendo’s relentless pursuit of the next best thing, Mario Kart has followed suit.

The company recently released their latest console, the Nintendo Switch, which has mobile and multiplayer capabilities. While some users have experienced technical problems with the Nintendo Switch, most seem excited about its potential. For fans of Mario Kart, it looks like the future is bright with Nintendo’s new Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

According to Nintendo, this version features every character, track and kart from the Wii U version (including all the previously released DLC) and players are able to take the game’s anti-gravity action on the go. The game has new content, with five new characters including: Inkling Girl, Inkling Boy, King Boo, Dry Bones and Bowser Jr. This brings the total number of racers to 42, which is the highest number in Mario Kart history. There are new karts inspired by Splatoon. Players will also have the ability to hold two items at once, and have a new Smart Steering control option.

With Switch’s ability to take multiplayer games anywhere and everywhere, Nintendo fans can get their gaming fix whenever they need it. The company has announced that new games are in development, designed specially for the Switch, and we’re excited to see what they come up with next.

Renegade Roundup: Making its debut in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, this new mode has one team trying to capture the other and put them into jail before time runs out. The opposing team must try to escape and can break their own teammates out of prison by pressing a button under the jail cell.

Balloon Battle: In this oldie but goodie, players earn points by popping balloons on the back of their opponent’s’ karts.

Bob-omb Blast: Originally seen in the Mario Kart: Double Dash!! game, this mode finds players throwing a barrage of Bob-ombs at opponents.

Coin Runners: By racing across the Battle course, players try to collect the most coins as possible in this fast and frenetic mode introduced in Mario Kart Wii.

Shine Thief: Steal the coveted Shine Sprite and try to hold onto it for a 20 count in this classic multiplayer Battle mode.
